Sexual assault
There's a viral video of a woman who accidentally hit a boda boda and was attacked and stripped by boda boda operators inside her own car. These men were intentionally touching her without her consent publicly, no matter what she did that was mass sexual assault. Watching that video was so disturbing, let's stop debating about who is right and who is wrong..stop making it gender based.. Any sexual advance that lacks consent is sexual assault may it be a man or woman. Sexual assault also includes rape,groping,child sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
Sexual assault causes trauma. One may experience guilt,shame, flash backs, shock, denial, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, it never ends!! Victims are stigmatized and blamed for putting themselves in vulnerable situations and this results to depression and isolation.
So how do you get over sexual assault? you can start by talking about the sexual assault to someone you trust, it's tough but it's important for your recovery. Find someone you can freely talk to, may it be a friend or a family member if there's none, try contacting an organization in your area that can support you while seeking help. Get that professional and confidential help, a professional can assist you in identify new coping skills, dealing with your feelings and managing stress. Therapy is a non-judgmental place to work through challenges.
For anyone who has ever been sexually assaulted, remember that it's not your fault, it's not a result of who you are, where you were or what you did like dressing in a particular manner or being drunk, someone just chose to behave badly towards you and to exert power over you... You are a survivor!
